Improved Power And Performance
Performance distributors provide precise timing and are made with modern technology that increases reliability. This results in quicker starting, smoother idle, improved fuel mileage, and better throttle response.
No Maintenance Required After Installation
Once a performance ignition distributor is installed and the engine timing is set, no further work is needed with an ignition system throughout the rest of each of its component's life. An electronic distributor upgrade will eliminate the maintenance that would be required with breaker point ignition systems by removing the need for adjustments required due to wear.

Structure and Use of Ignition Distributor
The ignition system is composed of a distributor, ignition coil, rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs. So what does a distributor do in a car? The distributor is tasked with receiving high voltage from the ignition coil to spark the individual spark plugs in proper firing sequence.
The distributor acts as a spinner, ensuring that spark is continuously distributed to each spark plug. It's composed of a rotating arm (also called a rotor button) located at the top of the distributor shaft. That shaft is moved by a gear attached directly to the camshaft on most overhead valve engines. In some cases it may also control the oil pump. The rotating arm spins inside a plastic distributor cap which has brass pickup points embedded along the inner circumference. Each brass pickup point is connected to a terminal on the top or the side of the distributor cap.
The ignition spark from the coil comes into the top of the distributor cap and travels down to the rotating arm, which has a spring loaded metal contact at the top. The spring loaded contact supplies the connection from the spinning button to the ignition coil. As the rotating arm spins the ignition spark jumps form the tip of the rotating arm to the brass pickup point inside the distributor cap. The distance between each brass pickup point is far enough so that only one spark can jump at a time. The spark then travels from the distributor cap to the ignition plug wire. The wires are arranged in the order of the engine firing sequence.
While all this is happening on the top part of the distributor, there is also a portion underneath which control the charging and discharging of the ignition coil. Decades ago a manual switch referred to as “points” would charge and discharge a capacitor for every single spark plug ignition. Points were okay, but could be finicky at times plus required maintenance.
