The expansion tank is commonly known as the auxiliary tank, and is also called a storage tank. It is an important component of the car cooling system, mainly used to hold the coolant that expands due to the increase in temperature. Its functions include:

Pressure regulation: When the engine is running, the coolant absorbs heat and expands. The expansion tank can hold excess coolant to prevent the system pressure from being too high, and avoid pipe rupture and coolant leakage.


Material and design: The expansion tank is usually made of translucent plastic, which is convenient for car owners to check the liquid level and has good corrosion resistance.


Coolant circulation: In the cooling system, the expansion tank is connected to the main water tank and acts as a "buffer station" to ensure that the volume change of the coolant does not affect the stability of the system.

Whether it is a gasoline car or an electric car, coolant needs to be added. In gasoline cars, the function is to dissipate heat for the engine, while in new energy vehicles, the coolant is used to control the temperature of the battery, and some water-cooled motors rely on coolant to dissipate heat for the motor. In short, the expansion tank plays a vital role in the car's cooling system, ensuring that the engine operates within a safe temperature range.

Depending on the model, most models have 1 expansion kettle, and some plug-in new energy-consuming models have 2 expansion kettles. Observing the kettle from the outside, there are usually 1 or more water pipe interfaces at the top and bottom of the kettle.
