VVT Solenoid Valve Failure Manifestation
VVT, or variable engine timing, is an innovative technology designed to increase engine power and reduce fuel consumption. The key function of the VVT solenoid valve, also known as the camshaft timing oil control valve, is to accurately adjust the intake (or exhaust) volume, the opening and closing timing and angle of the valve according to the real-time operating status of the engine. Through these delicate operations, the VVT solenoid valve ensures that the amount of air entering the engine reaches the optimal level, thereby improving combustion efficiency. Its significant advantages are energy saving, high power and small displacement.
When the VVT valve is damaged, a series of fault phenomena will occur, such as powerlessness or even flameout during rapid acceleration, jitter during idling, abnormal increase in fuel consumption, engine fault light on, and inability to start, etc. These symptoms all indicate that there may be problems with the VVT system and need to be repaired in time.
The following methods can be used for measurement and judgment: 1. Read the fault code: If the engine fault indicator light is on, you need to read the fault code first. Common fault codes caused by VVT valve damage include: VVT regulating solenoid valve failure, VVT regulating solenoid valve short circuit to ground, etc. According to the circuit diagram, perform related fault inspection and repair. 2. Measure the resistance of the VVT solenoid valve: First unplug the harness connector of the VVT solenoid valve, and then measure the resistance between the two ends of the VVT solenoid valve. Under normal circumstances (air temperature 20 degrees), the resistance of the solenoid valve should be 6-7 ohms. If the measured resistance is too large, it means that the internal electromagnetic coil is damaged and needs to be replaced. 3. Use a battery to test: Remove the VVT valve from the engine, and use the positive and negative poles of the battery to connect to the 1st and 2nd ends of the VVT valve with bow|wires. The VVT solenoid valve is an electrical component with two pins, end 1 is the positive pole of the VVT valve, and end 2 is the negative pole of the VVT valve. Keep the 2 ends grounded and keep them still, energize the VVT valve by continuously contacting the 1 terminal, and then observe whether the movement of the VVT control valve is stuck, whether the action is fast, etc. If the above situation occurs, the VVT valve needs to be replaced.
